Development of an economically viable organic rice supply chain via a Contract Farming scheme in Preah Vihear province, Cambodia

This March 2016 presentation outlines the SCCRP’s work in Preah Vihear, Cambodia, to build an economically viable organic rice supply chain through contract farming. Starting in 2013 with five cooperatives, the project expanded to eight, partnering mainly with AMRU Rice to secure purchase agreements, cover certification costs, and offer premium prices to farmers. A Union of Cooperatives was created to sustain certification and operations by pooling resources and retaining part of the premiums. By 2015–2016, deliveries met targets, premium prices remained attractive, and demand from U.S. and European markets indicated the model’s long-term viability.
