This book discusses the types of seeds, the local varieties that are gradually disappearing, how local seeds are connected to our lives, culture, and spiritual values, and that failing to preserve seeds means failing to preserve oneself. It also presents an analysis of local seeds in terms of two impacts: (1) impact on the social environment, and (2) impact on the natural environment.
Local communities and social organizations need to protect local seeds region by region so that the seeds survive as long as their organizations exist. The loss of local seeds that parents and ancestors have preserved for thousands of years is the root cause of all kinds of losses. The importance of local seeds is discussed with examples drawn from events experienced internationally.
