We need drastic change in the global food system in order to achieve a more sustainable agriculture that feeds people adequately, contribute to rural development and provide livelihood to farmers without destroying the natural resource basis. Organic agriculture has been proposed as an important means for achieving this goals. Organic agriculture currently covers only a small area in developing countries but its extent is continuously growing as demand for organic products is increasing.
