ASIA REGIONAL ORGANIC STANDARD

The Asia Regional Organic Standard (AROS) describes the requirements for organic production with the view to assessment and agreement on equivalence among organic standards in the Asian region. It covers plant (including mushroom) production, collection of wild products and also the processing and labelling of products derived from these activities. This standard provides a mechanism to define the expectations for organic production. When complied with, it also enables producers to label their products as organic. The standard does not cover procedures for verification, such as inspection or certification of products. The Asia Regional Organic Standard (AROS) was developed by a public-private partnership of stakeholders in East, South-East and South Asia under the auspices of the GOMA project, led by the Food and Agriculture Program of the United Nations (FAO), the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
