In 1996, the Government of Lao PDR acceded to United Nation International Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). In meeting the requirements of the convention, in 2004, the government of Lao PDR formulated and approved its first National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP). This NBSAP laid out an action plan to 2010 and strategy to 2020.
