RDA
The Rural Development Agency (RDA) is a Lao-based non-profit social enterprise established in 2009, originating from the Participatory Development Training Centre (PADETC). Initially operating as the SuanMaiLao Eco-Forest Learning Center (SML), RDA focused on educating youth and the public about the significance of ecology in holistic education and development. In 2015, SML transitioned into the Rural Development Agency, broadening its mission to encompass community-centered projects in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), nutrition, environmental conservation, and youth engagement.
In July 2023, RDA updated its three-year strategic plan with the overarching goal of becoming a professional knowledge hub in environmental education, food security, and community study tools. This plan emphasizes strengthening the capacities of youth and women across 20 communities.
RDA’s vision is to serve as a model agency that inspires and empowers rural communities. The organization values the development of self-esteem, a deep awareness of individual strengths, and a comprehensive understanding of root issues. This is achieved through fostering a friendly environment and supportive relationships that enhance personal, community, and societal efficacy.
The mission of RDA is to facilitate holistic capacity building and provide quality services in environmental education, nutrition, youth empowerment, and community studies, aiming to enhance the well-being and prosperity of the Lao people.
