Policy guidelines on agroecology transitions in ASEAN

The Policy Guidelines on Agroecology Transitions in ASEAN were developed through an inclusive, multi-stakeholder process led by the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) under the Agroecology and Safe Food System Transitions (ASSET) project, and in support of the Lao facilitated Initiative on Agroecology for ASEAN (LICA) and the ASEAN Secretariat. The Policy Guidelines were adopted at the 45th Special Senior Officials Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (SOM-AMAF) held in Johor Bahru, Malaysia from 6-8 August 2024; and the 46th Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (AMAF) held virtually on 24 October 2024. These guidelines support policy actors to overcome some of the challenges and tap into opportunities to scale up and scale out agroecology transitions. It is not a guide on “how to do agroecology” or sustainable agriculture, but recommendations on policy instruments, practices, and setting the right incentives.
