Exploring the Rice Varietal Diversity to Fit Agroecology-Based Rice Cropping Systems

Rice-based farming systems form the backbone of Cambodia’s agricultural sector. Maintaining yields in line with the growing needs of the population and producing varieties adapted to ecologically less favourable regions are just some of the challenges to face. Studying the diversity of Asian rice varieties can help to identify varieties adapted to the local context.
This research brief presents the 2023 preliminary results of the research action which consisted in establishing on-farm rice varieties tests for rainfed and irrigated organic/agroecological rice farming to assess their performance, adaptation, and resistance to pest and disease.
