The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2026 – Understanding and Addressing the High Cost of a Healthy Diet

Despite steady progress in recent years, global hunger and food insecurity remain well above the targets established under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. An estimated 645 million people experienced hunger in 2025, while approximately 2.7 billion people could not afford a healthy diet. The 2026 edition of The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World examines this critical challenge by analyzing the structural factors driving the persistently high cost of healthy diets and highlighting the need to improve economic access to safe, diverse, and nutritious foods.
